2012 Front License Plate Mod - PriusChat Forums

I took a look at the new 2012 Prius, and the front air dam has been re-designed. This provides room to install the front license plate without putting the plate right on the bumper. In the photo below, which has the license bracket attached on the bumper, it looks like the air dam is high enough to hold the plate, and the right and left sides of the air dam don't provide any cooling at all, so a plate to the left or right side wouldn't interfere with cooling. I read the California DMV regulations regarding the front plate, and see no problem with this whatsoever.

What I cannot figure out, however, is how to effectively affix the plate to the air dam. Does anyone have any ideas?

One thought I have may be to surround the plate edges with a soft plastic or foam material, and then run plastic-coated wire through the eyelets in plate, and basically wire-wrap them to the horizontal and vertical supports in the air dam. Or, I could drill vertical holes in the horizontal "fins" of the air dam, and wrap the wires through those holes. This would let me offset the plate to one side, which would allow better airflow.

The handlebar stems were recalled after discovering that the front plate of the stem to the stem body can be pulled out of the threads while the bike is being ridden, which can cause the rider to lose control and fall.

The stem consists of a metal alloy body and front plate and four alloy bolts. The stem body is black with red markings. News From The Workshop: graduating the front plate of the fiddle

So here is where I am in real world time. I´ve just finished the graduation of the top. Here the problem was that some parts were to thin, so I can only try to make it as close as possible to the desired thickness and hopefully it´ll be "good enough"
The top I´´ve put upside down on the back and sides and with the small thumb planes and a scraper, I´m taking the plates down to the desired thickness, taking care that it´ll be thin enough all the way out towards the edge. On the photo you can see a Hacklinger guide which i use for checking the thickness while I work.
I can feel that this will be a fast build. I want to play......

Does an acura 2.2 cl need a front license plate? | Auto Symbol

I have a Acura 2.2cl and i got pulled over and a ticket for not having a front license plate, but when i see the same car on the road they dont have one ether..
help please !!!

That depends on what state you live in.

Here are two lists I found on a website: one is a list of states that require you to have both front and back license plates and the other is a list of states that only require back license plates. If you live in one of the states that only require back license plates then you don’t have to worry about it unless you travel around the country a lot.

These US States require a Front and Rear DMV License Plates:

Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming,

These US States only require a Rear DMV License Plate:
Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia,

it is different for every state. In California, the law states that you must display however many license plates that you receive in the mail. We get two, so legally we are required to have one in front and in back.

In the state of Texas all vehicles from Texas are required to have 2 license plates a front and back.

It’s a state law whether a front license plate is required or not, has nothing to do with the type of car.Check your specific state law.

You need to check the law in your state if it is the law requires it where you live then yes it needs a front plate if not its just personal preference

yeah it depends on the law of the state u live in here in California yeah it isError processing request

Got a new bumper installed in your car but do not want to drill holes for the front license plate? The solution to your problem is a tow hook license plate holder. Now you can mount your front license plate without having to drill holes in your beautiful bumper cover.

In many states and countries, many cars are not required to display license plate on the front. Because of this, they come out of the factory without the need for front license plate. However, these days a lot of states are requiring car owners to display their front license plate. Some car owners hate to see bumper holes for mounting the front license plate. If drilling holes to your brand new bumper is a big deal to you, then you may want to go with a nice kit to hold your front license plate without drilling holes in your expensive bumper cover.

You can keep your BMW street legal without having to drill holes in the bumper to display the front license plate. You can use the front license plate tow hook mounting kit that adapts your front tow hook. All the parts of the tow hook license plate holder are made of stainless steel and powder coated to stand up to daily driving conditions. It is a great product for your car.

Tow Hook License Plate Holder

Installing the tow hook license plate holder is quick and easy. The kit includes all the things you need and you do need special tools to complete the installation. Simply remove the cover on the front tow hook mounting port and install the tow hook adapter bolt with a wrench. Then install the bracket where you screw the license plate. The tow hook license plate holder is height adjustable and you can get the kit in straight or angled type.

Are you participating in show or track events and don’t need license plate displayed? No problem. You can simply remove your license plate anytime you do not need it. It’s that easy.

If you have an expensive bumper, the last thing that you want to do is to bore holes in it. Now you don’t have to worry about having your beautiful bumper cover ruined by holes just to display that front license plate. With front plate tow hook license plate holder, you can display your front license plate and keep your expensive bumper in flawless condition.

CMS front spoiler skid plate fix?

I already PM'd Tom@CMS about this but thought I'd get some input from everyone.

I have the carbon fiber front spoiler, and as some may know, it has a metal skid plate bolted on(?) the undersurface to protect from scraping. Well, its done a magnificent job but seems to have reached its limit today. Coming out of a steep parking lot, the skid plate on the passenger side came loose and is hanging by a single bolt towards the center of the spoiler.

Would an adhesive such as loctite work? If so, which one? I'm wary of having the plate rebolted to the spoiler b/c one, it already failed once, and two, I'm wary of drilling new holes into something that can splinter into a million expensive bits.

Thoughts/ideas?

Ed,

My skid plates are riveted on. I too wore through one of the rivets, the one closest to the center front, on the drivers side of the car. I just removed the rest of the rivet and use a flat body panel washer/nut in conjunction with a .25-.375" automotive sheet metal screw with a flat philips button head. Its been working just fine thus far. However, my plates are getting a bit thin and could stand to be replaced.

Quick pic of the fix. Just make sure you use a short screw, else it will poke through the visible side of your spoiler and you'll really be p-ss'd off at yourself!
